Mahsa Alimardani

Mahsa is an Iranian-Canadian Internet researcher. She has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Toronto along with a background in journalism and writing, focusing on human rights and communications strategies with organisations such as Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders. She spent two years as the research manager of a Iran focused digital rights NGO based in Toronto before moving to Amsterdam to commence her graduate studies at the University of Amsterdam’s Media Studies department.  Her research and activism is focused on digital security, Internet controls and policy. She has been the research assistant for DATACTIVE since its inception while finishing her Research Master’s thesis on Contentious Politics and Information Controls in Iran. She is also the Iran editor for Global Voices where you will find her analysis and research on digital rights in Iran.
